Android 5.0.2 OTA update files uncovered for certain Nexus tablets

Google’s latest Android release is 5.0.2, though that might come as a surprise to even many Nexus users, as the company’s been a little slow in getting updates out to its own flock of pure-Android hardware. First the 2012 WiFi Nexus 7 saw a factory image land back in December, and just last week a couple new images arrived for the 2013 WiFi Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10. If you’ve got a locked bootloader and aren’t too wild about backing up your data just to flash a factory image, you may have been holding off on updating. In which case, we’ve got good news for you, as OTA packages for a couple of these models have now been tracked down.
The Nexus 10 is still waiting for its 5.0.2 OTA to be made public, but files for both those Nexus 7 models are now available.
The process for installing these files is the same as it ever was, and while it requires the slightest bit of ADB-fu, it’s pretty darn simple, as manual installations go. If you need a little refresher on what that all entails, you might want to refer to one of our previous posts about pushing such updates to your Nexus device.
Any guesses on who’s next to get Android 5.0.2? Will Google continue this tablet streak with the Nexus 9, or is it finally time for the release to start coming to phones?
