Jailbreak arrives for all iOS 8.1 devices

It has been entirely too long since we had the opportunity to talk about an iOS jailbreak, last touching base with jailbreak progress back when iOS 8 was still a developer beta. We’ve come a long way since then, with Apple releasing the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3, as well as making iOS 8 – and now iOS 8.1 – publicly available. Sometimes the arrival of new hardware and new software like that (not to mention new SoCs) can throw a spanner in the jailbreak works, derailing progress and sending devs back to square one. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be what’s happening this time around, as Team Pangu releases an 8.1 jailbreak that works with every iOS device supporting the OS.
Sounds like good news, right? Well, it’s not without its limitations. For now the jailbreak tool is Windows-only, and it happens to be in Chinese (though English-language instructions are available). There’s also no Cydia support just yet (SSH only), though Saurik’s on the case, and compatibility is expected soon. Similarly, a Mac version should be in the works.
That makes this very much a work in progress, but it’s still an impressive release all the same, especially landing just days after iOS 8.1 came out. As always with this sort of thing, proceed at your own risk. But if you’re up for it, you can get started by following those source links below.
