Microsoft may not be famous for its late announcement of Windows Phone 8.1, but theamount of features included were enough to justify its timing. Microsoft’s new mobile operating system is finally on par with its leading competitors in almost every relevant feature, and it seems that the guys at Redmond are now focusing on speed when it comes to the major updates to Windows Phone 8.1.
A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Windows Phone would receive two GDR updates in 2014, Windows Phone 8.1 GDR 1 happening in July and GDR 2 happening some time in November. Some new rumors have it that the Consumer Experience (CXE) team should be wrapping up with GDR 1 next week, which would mean that it should reach carriers and OEMs very soon for further testing. This sadly doesn’t mean that you’ll be getting the update in July, but it does mean that Microsoft is doing its job in getting updates in a timely manner to its partners.
Details on what Windows Phone 8.1 GDR 1 will bring to the table are scarce at the moment, but we do know that native folder capabilities will be part of the update. It’s hard to predict when this update will reach your specific devices though, and mainly because we know that there are still a lot of Windows Phones that haven’t been updated toWindows Phone 8.1. We’ll keep you posted as more progress becomes public.
