About a month back we got to check out a pretty comprehensive Nokia leak, detailing the company’s long-term smartphone strategy stretching all the way out into fall 2015. While that included a lot of still-very-far-off devices, there were a number described as being just over the horizon, ready to land sometime in Q3 as the first models shipping with WP8.1 GDR1. Those included phones like the ones codenamed Superman, Tesla, and the anticipated McLaren flagship. Today we switch focus from codenames to model numbers, as a newly leaked roadmap shows the progress towards bringing three new Lumias to market.
We’re looking at model numbers RM-1017, RM-984, and RM-1028. The former two have popped up sporadically over the past couple months, though the 1028 seems to be new. But are these Superman, Tesla, and McLaren? It’s tempting to match them up three-for-three, but the evidence just isn’t there (at least, not yet) to support that sort of connection.
As for a release schedule, this leak notes the dates Nokia plans to make “sales decisions” for each model, and we’re told that a retail launch often occurs three to four weeks after such a decision. That would put the 1017 somewhere in mid-August, and the 984 and 1028 out more in mid-to-late September. Those last two might just fit with the Q3 timing from that earlier timeline leak, though again, for now we lack anything directly tying these numbers to those codenames (and their rumored feature sets).
