Sony Xperia Z3 leaks.

Late last month, a couple images arrived of front panels for Sony smartphones that were supposed to be the upcoming Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact. And maybe they were, we noted at the time, but there just wasn’t much to see, and certainly not much that screamed “Z3.” Well, today a whole new series of images has hit our desk, and not only do they appear to show the larger of those two handsets fully assembled and functional, but also provide enough new info to really start convincing us that this could be the Z3.
The hardware – at least what we’re able to make out – appears to be a match to that earlier pic. And the new shots of the phone’s backside reveal another 20.7MP camera consistent with Sony’s flagship offerings.
What about that Z3 evidence? Well, we see this device identify itself as Sony’s model L55t, and the L50t is the Z2 for China – that sure sounds like how a successor would be numbered. Then again, there’s this little voice in the back of our head wondering if this might not be a new entry that’s still in the Z2 family, rather than already branching out into Z3 territory. The presence of a Snapdragon 801-AC also fits with a flagship role (even if an 805 might have been nice), for what it’s worth – the Z2 runs an 801-AB.
There’s still a lot we need to learn about this hardware and Sony’s plans for it, but by the looks of things an Xperia Z3 (if that’s what this is) could well arrive in the next few months – maybe even before the year’s out.
