The most contradicting and controversial rumors of the year have everything to do with Apple’s iWatch. Some have said that we’ll see two iWatch models launched this year, while others assume that Apple isn’t ready for a launch in 2014. Now rumors are even considering a third iWatch model being produced as well, and these rumors continue to point to a 2014 launch.
Taiwan’s Economic Daily is contradicting some of the recent rumors from KGI securities, and claiming that there will be three iWatch models instead of two. One of these models will have a 1.6-inch display, and then the two remaining models will have a 1.8-inch display, and where one of these later models will sport sapphire glass.
Even more interesting is that in addition to an extra iWatch model; the report mentioned that these devices, along with the new iPad Pro model that’s being rumored will all sport Touch ID. For this to happen, there are some new technologies based on silver nanowire ink are being implemented in order to allow a Touch ID sensor to fit on products as small as the iWatch. This technology will also allow Apple to use flexible OLED displays on its new products, as we remember LG being a provider of this technology.
At this point it’s hard to predict if Apple will build two or three iWatch models. What does make sense is for a smaller iWatch to cater to female customers, something we haven’t seen built buy competing smartwatch companies yet. Let’s see how Apple plays its cards going forward.
