Some of the biggest smartphone markets today are over in Asia, with both China and India becoming hotspots for OEM advertising as of late. To that end, it doesn’t surprise us in the least to see the HTC One E8 Indian launch, along with the same for the Desire 616.
The One E8 is the higher-end of the two, coming in with premium specs quite similar to what can be found on the One M8. It has a 5-inch 1080p display (with 441 pixels per inch), 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage (with microSD expansion up to 128GB).
The E8 also has a 13 MP rear camera, with a 5 MP front-facing backup. There’s also a 2600 mAh battery in tow. It will run Indian purchasers Rs 34,900 ($579.97), which is right around the price point of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
The lower-end phone announced today is the Desire 616. It has a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core chipset, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage (again, with microSD expansion, this time up to 32GB).
The camera setup includes an 8 MP primary shooter and a 2 MP front-facing backup, and there’s a 2000 mAh battery. Unlike the One E8, this phone doesn’t run Sense 6 atop a build of Android 4.4 KitKat, rather running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It will cost Rs 16,900 ($280.85).
