windows 8.1 OTA update confirmed.

Since April’s Build 2014 Windows Phone 8.1 announcement, smartphone users have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of updates. Sure, a ton of you are already running the developer preview, but OTA updates will mean new firmware and much broader availability. The big question has been working out just when they might start hitting phones. A recent Nokia leak pointed to sometime next month, and as we get ready to move into July new details are arriving, with confirmation coming in on multiple fronts that WP8.1 updates are just about to go out.
Carrier SFR in France is advising its users that the first Windows Phone 8.1 updates will start hitting select phones as soon as July 8. We also see a tweet from the official Microsoft India account announcing that updates will begin coming to that market during the first two weeks of July – a little looser of a window, but still in the same ballpark.
What about those of you Windows Phone users in the States? When are your updates incoming? There, we don’t really have the same kind of firm ETAs – at least, not yet. But odds are good that we’ll be learning a lot more (whether officially or not) about the situation here as we start moving into July.
