Apple may be famous for the products it has launched over the last couple of decades, but one thing that it has also become infamous for, is for the products it has decided not to launch, or even for the technologies it has always been late to adopt. Another thing Apple is famous for, and in this particular manner Steve Jobs mainly, is in attracting some very good talent in order to help him make the best decisions while he ran Apple. One of these talents is famous designer Hartmut Esslinger, which Steve Jobs hired in 1982, and which is still highly respected in the industry. If you’re wondering what he thinks about smartwatches, prepare to be shocked.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Esslinger told the world that he feels that “Smartwatches are stupid”, and his main argument was: “Why would I put cheap electronics on my wrist as a symbol of [my] emotion?” He feels that fitness trackers and smartwatches are more of a gimmick, and not really something useful or valuable to their users. It’s hard to tell if his thoughts have influenced Apple in holding back on launching the iWatch or not, but it clearly won’t be first in the market.
