Fragmentation isn’t today the nasty word it was just a few years ago, as differences between the various Android platform releases tend to not have quite the limiting effect they once did. Still, that desire to have the latest-and-greatest update remains a pervasive one, and owners of models still stuck on older builds are going to be keeping a look out for any sign of incoming releases. Today we investigate a leak from Samsung that gives us a little taste of what’s to come, detailing the status of KitKat updates for a number of its existing Androids.
We’re looking at handsets covering the last two years here, and while the news largely seems positive, it’s not without upset – that’s a shame about the GS3 falling short of the mark, and even though Android’s been making strides to accommodate lower-memory hardware, rumors suggest that the single gigabyte of RAM on that international 3G model may be to blame (well, along with TouchWiz, we suppose).
While the KOT49H referenced here is an Android 4.4.2 release, we’ve also heard the suggestion that at least some of these models might skip 4.4.2 and go right to 4.4.3 – assuming, that is, if Google gets around to releasing it in time.
