LG has announced today the 5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440) display that they will be using on their upcoming flagship, the G3. The LCD display will be multiple times sharper than the 1080p displays that have become the norm for smartphones these days, and should provide for a great viewing experience.
The bezel on the display is set to be just 1.15mm — for comparison, last year’s LG G2 (which we still think has insanely small bezels) had twice that. This should result in a large screen in a fairly manageable body, ideal for this class of mobile device.
The pixels-per-inch count is at 538 on this display, which is impressive, considering that the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 are somewhere near 100ppi less than that. LG is touting the fact that their Quad HD display is sharper than regular displays simply because of the number of pixels, which we aren’t doubting much.
Meeting both the requirements for NEMKO certification and the 100 percent RGB color reproduction standard, this display should also not be lacking in terms of color reproduction, but we will have to reserve judgment on that until we see it in person.
LG has confirmed that the G3 will come with this 5.5-inch QHD display, so we are anxiously awaiting the unveil event on May 27 to learn more.
