Android Lollipop hitting unlocked HTC One M8 today

We are on a Lollipop roll today, already hearing about updates for the Galaxy S5, getting an early look an an update for the LG G2, and checking in with Motorola for news of its latest progress. Now it’s time to switch up manufacturers as we get word of a hotly-awaited Lollipop update that’s landing today, with HTC announcing availability of Lollipop for both the unlocked and developer edition One M8.
Google just gave the update the go-ahead, and while the official word from HTC is that it intends to get the ball rolling with OTA availability sometime tonight, we’ve already heard reports of the update being spotted in the wild. The release brings the phone Android 5.0 Lollipop along with Sense 6; Sense 7 will reportedly wait for the One M9/Hima.
We had previously heard that this update might be arriving sooner rather than later, and while HTC didn’t come through with it last week as rumored, this is still a pretty welcome development in our books.
The full update comes in at about 584MB, but we doubt you’re too concerned with its size, just thankful to see it becoming available in the first place. With distribution of Lollipop for the unlocked One M8 getting started, our eyes are now on American carriers to see which might be first to follow with One M8 Lollipop updates for their own network editions.
