Unlocked HTC One M8 gets EYE features, Android 4.4.4 tomorrow

Don’t lie,
HTC One M8 owners: you were jealous when the Desire EYE went official, complete with its 13MP front and rear-facing cameras, along with a suite of nifty camera tricks. While (unfortunately) HTC won’t be sending swappable camera modules to all One M8 owners, it will be beefing up the software abilities of the device, with the HTC One M8 EYE Experience update scheduled to be available for unlocked models tomorrow.14 Comments
The software will bring a multitude of the Desire EYE’s camera features – many of which we explored extensively in our in-depth hands-on with that phone – including Face Tracking and Split Capture. It should also bring features like Crop Me In as well, but that wasn’t specifically confirmed by the bearer of the news, HTC exec Mo Versi.
This same update has already begun its European rollout, with other models (including carrier-branded US units) set to receive it in the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted once we start hearing news about that.
For now, though, HTC One M8 owners have reason to be happy. It’s quite nice that HTC has committed to such long-lasting support for its flagship, but the real test in the eyes of many will come with the upcoming release of Android L.
