Source points to Nexus 6, Nexus 9 stealth launch tomorrow

At some
point, you’re probably feeling a little Nexus fatigue – and that’s understandable. After all, our morning was positively dominated by the latest leaks and rumors surrounding both the Nexus 6 phone and Nexus 9 tablet. But what of Google’s launch plans? Are those whispers of a possible October 15 or October 16 announcement accurate? Will Google hold a surprise event, or is this just going to a very low-key “hey, these are up for sale now” blog post? Forbes has just heard from “a source close to Google” and reports that both the Nexus 6 and 9 are set to debut tomorrow.1 Comment
Word is that there will be no formal event, no big streaming presentation, and that Google will introduce both the Nexus phone and tablet via a post. Sales of the Nexus 9 would open for pre-order on Friday, with full availability starting November 3. Reported specs are in line with previous reports, including an 8.9-inch screen with a much closer to 4:3 than widescreen aspect ratio, and a 64-bit NVIDIA SoC. Even BoomSound could make an appearance, bringing the Nexus 9 a pair of stereo front-facing speakers. And of course, we’ll find Android L powering it all.
What about the Nexus 6? Forbes has a lot less to say about this guy, and doesn’t even mention the handset by name – just “a new smartphone made by Motorola.” We’ve noticed similar caution in other recent Nexus 6 rumors, which could be tied to suggestions that the Nexus 6 may not be the phone’s launch name.
Whether that means a Nexus X or something else altogether, we don’t yet know, but the important detail here is the assertion that tomorrow is launch day, when whatever name it gets finally sees confirmation. As opposed to the tablet his source doesn’t provide any specific timeframe regarding when sales of the Nexus phone might begin.
