Sony adds Xperia Z3 Compact to its US page; will we hear of carrier interest?

If you listened to
this week’s Pocketnow Weekly podcast, you heard us discussing yesterday’s Sony event which ultimately brought us the Xperia Z3v for Verizon – and which, to our disappointment, wholly ignored the oh-so-interesting Xperia Z3 Compact. Understandably, we were starting to become nervous that Sony would steer clear of the US once again with this smartphone, drastically limiting its appeal to audiences in the States. But had we spoken too soon? Without much fanfare, Sony has added a listing for the Z3 Compact to its page of phones for the US market.5 Comments
Now, to be clear, the Z3 Compact appearing here does not guarantee any carrier interest. And certainly, while the Z3 itself also shows up on this page, it’s either listed as the Z3v for Verizon, or the Z3 proper for T-Mobile – so the absence of any specific carrier designation for the smaller model may be somewhat of an admission that you won’t find any US networks selling the Z3 Compact directly.
But even if this means paying full price for the phone and getting it set up with a carrier ourselves, this is still pretty exciting news for those of you who feel like it’s become increasingly difficult to get flagship-level specs in a sub-five-inch handset.
The “buy” link on Sony’s US Z3 Compact page isn’t yet live, but now it’s only a matter of time before that changes and sales get underway.
