Sony 12-inch tablet may be in the works for early 2015 launch

Will the next tablet war not be fought over thinness, screen resolution, or even budget pricing, but dominance in the space of the bigger-than-big form factor? Few manufacturers have already pushed things much further past ten inches – Samsung and its NotePRO and TabPRO 12.2 modelsbeing a notable exception – but rumors of similar models like a 12.9-inch iPad Pro from Apple suggest that other OEMs may finally be ready to really start competing in this area. Now a new rumor brings Sony into the mix, claiming that the company is working on a jumbo-sized tablet of its own.
According to sources reportedly involved in Sony’s component supply chain, the manufacturer is working to launch a 12-inch tablet sometime in the first quarter of 2015. That has us optimistic that the company could be ready to show this guy off as early as CES, if not later at MWC.
We don’t hear anything about other hardware details, leaving us wondering if Sony would put an emphasis on thinness (as it does with smaller-screened tablets), or if other concerns would take priority. We’re also anxious to hear some theories about what kind of resolution this tablet might boast; quad HD would be an easy answer, but at this size, it’s not crazy to suggest that Sony might have an even loftier target.
