LG talks Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for G3, G2

It’s a question Android users everywhere are asking of the manufacturers behind their phones: when can I expect a software update to Android 5.0 Lollipop? The Nexus 6 may be the first smartphone to debut running the latest version of Google’s OS, and there are already handsets lining up behind it to bring Lollipop to their users as quickly as possible. Some OEMs have offered dates for when their users might hope to see such software released, and the latest to join the fun is LG, talking about its plans for the G3 and last year’s G2.
According to LG’s German arm, the G3 is set to start getting Lollipop sometime this quarter – that is, before the year’s out. That gives LG a two month window in which to start making the G3′s Android update available. At least, that’s the plan for the phone internationally, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the update land a bit later for the US with all its carrier certification – and that may well mean early 2015, for all we know.
The situation for the G2 is a little less clear, with LG sharing its intent to release the G2′s Android 5.0 update following the G3′s. That could mean a couple weeks later, a month or two, or maybe an even longer delay. And we know – it seems a bit obvious that an older phone would be a lesser priority than this year’s flagship – but that’s the info LG has made public, and we though you’d appreciate hearing it confirmed, all the same.
