Samsung confirms Tizen phone delay.

Are we ever going to see Samsung’s first commercial Tizen-running smartphone, the Samsung Z, go up for sale? After its early June launch, Samsung said the Z would make its retail debut in Russia sometime in Q3. But then a few weeks back we heard reports from a Moscow developer’s event that Samsung was pulling its Russian launch announcement, and would instead introduce the phone “later,” when a better selection of Tizen apps was available. That didn’t bode particularly well for the Z, and now Samsung’s back with a new statement, talking again about delays.

Sadly, it’s more of the same, with word of putting the brakes on the Samsung Z until the manufacturer is able to “further enhance” the platform’s app offerings. What we don’t get, however, is anything like a new ETA, though as far as we can tell, Samsung seems to have stopped using this “third quarter” language altogether.

But could the Samsung Z still hit stores before the end of the year? Right now, even that distant target is far from a certainty. Could Samsung be intentionally choosing not to give us a hard ETA, out of fear that it will make that June launch announcement sound preposterously premature? And what kind of timetable could we be looking at for Samsung Z markets outside of Russia? Right now, only Samsung seems to know, and it’s not saying much.
