It’s been a few months since Microsoft made its big Windows Phone 8.1 announcement back at Build in early April, and WP users everywhere have been patiently (and some not so patiently) waiting since to get their hands on full WP8.1 updates. Sure, the Preview for Developers offered many of you an early peek at the changes, but that came without phone-specific software updates that promise to really make the WP8.1 experience shine. Evidence hadstrongly been pointing to a July release of OTA updates, and today Microsoft goes official with the start to its distribution, announcing the release of Windows Phone 8.1 updates and Lumia Cyan for Nokia devices.
The global rollout of WP8.1 and Cyan gets started today, and Nokia says that it should hit handsets everywhere within the span of a few weeks. It directs users curious about a more specific timeframe to check out its region-by-region breakdown of update availability, but our cursory check reveals that Cyan’s still marked as being “under testing” everywhere; presumably, that list will be updated as things get underway later today.
Since these updates have been so hotly anticipated, we’re anxious to get a better sense of availability. Let us know in the comments if your Lumia gets updated soon (and what region you’re in), and after you’ve had a little time to dive into the software, tell us what you think about the new features not just in 8.1 itself, but those arriving as part of Cyan.
