Moto 360 gets a new advertisement.

Android Wear is here in full force, following the arrival of LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live hardware. We’ve already been giving both smartwatches a spin, as well as checking out some of the new software that’s been coming in with the addition of Wear-specific features. While both these watches should keep us busy for some time to come, their presence isn’t being enjoyed without a little lingering disappointment: Google I/O came and went without the start of sales for the Moto 360. Rumors have suggested that Motorola might be holding back until the Moto X+1 is ready to launch, so as to have a new companion phone for its smartwatch, but a specific date continues to remain elusive. As we stand by for news of the start of sales, Motorola has a new Moto 360 video to keep us satiated, talking a little about its design process.
Moto 360 Product Lead Lior Ron touches upon a few of the reasons for the company’s decision to buck the trend and go with a round watchface. Comfort and classical design may be obvious enough motivators, but some of what he discusses is informative because of how counter-intuitive it can seem. For instance, you might think about a round smartwatch as offering less screen real estate than a square design (by nature of losing its corners), but Motorola instead sees this shape as one that allows it to present users with even more on-screen content than a squared-off alternative.
“Summer 2014” is still the official word on Moto 360 availability, so one way or another, you’ll have your chance to grab this puppy in just another couple months.
