Windows phone 8.1 updates increase.

With July in sight, odds are good that current users of Windows Phone 8 – those of you who haven’t dipped your toes in the 8.1 pool yet by means of the developer preview – are about to see over-the-air WP8.1 updates start landing in just a couple weeks. Until those days arrive, your only 8.1 options have been that preview release, or the rare new model shipping with 8.1 right out of the box. But despite that limited availability, 8.1 adoption is already showing some steady growth, and the latest numbers reveal it’s already reached nearly eight percent of Windows Phone users.
The actual number is 7.7 percent, at least according to AdDuplex’s reporting, and while that may not sound like much, it’s up pretty significantly from this time last month, when Windows Phone 8.1 had only touched around 5.2 percent of the platform’s hardware.
Rather than more people giving the 8.1 preview release a shot, this increase likely has a lot to do with sales of the Lumia 630, and even though it’s yet to displace more popular Windows 8.0 handsets, it’s moving up in the rankings, and was last tracked holding the number ten spot globally. While it will soon be joined by the 930, not to mention the 635, we’re not far off from hitting that tipping point where 8.1 becomes the norm, and old 8.0 models yet-to-update the exception.
