Often times, product names end up being outed by trademark filings before they’re made official. New LG filings show us some name possibilities for devices that could be in the pipeline.
Around a week ago, on June 3, LG applied to trademark the names G Prime, L Prime, W Prime, and F Prime. The G Prime name could refer to something from LG’s G-series, currently spearheaded by the G3 – this could signify a possibly-upcoming flagship smartphone, as every manufacturer seemingly needs a Prime in their lives.
LG’s F-series is typically not the highest-end, but it exists indeed, with notable smartphones from this line being the F70 and F90. We aren’t exactly sure why LG would want to make a mid-range Prime, but you never know what could be in the making. The same story holds true for the L-series.
The W Prime is where things get interesting, as LG doesn’t have a W-series in their current product lineup. It’s possible that W Prime could refer to an upcoming Windows Phone, with this naming structure being similar to HTC’s rumored choice with the W8.
While trademark filings certainly don’t indicate products in the making, it’s at least a way to speculate about upcoming products. It’s possible, though, that we may see any one of these devices in the near future.
