After hearing those rumors about Google Fit just a little earlier this morning, our wearables kick continues, and now we’ve got a new development from Samsung to check out. Samsung’s already got more wearables than pretty much anyone else out there, and from the signs of it, its pace isn’t about to start slowing down. Last month we looked at a leak that identified Samsung’s model SM-R382 as an upcoming Gear model – but that’s all we had. This week, that model number makes a reappearance, as the watch’s FCC certification paperwork goes public.
So, what is this thing? Well, it’s probably not that cellular-enabled Gear 2 Solo, one because we don’t see any band support like that here, and two because the Gear 2 Solo seems to be Samsung’s model SM-R710.
One of the few useful details emerging from this paperwork is that of the smartwatch’s dimensions, and the measurements here show its body to be quite a bit shorter than either existing Gear 2 model. That could be seen as evidence in favor of a tighter, button-less design, which might fit with the idea of an Android Wear smartwatch, like the similarly button-free LG G Watch.
Could this be the Galaxy Wear? Given the evidence, that sounds like quite the plausible explanation, but right now that ID is still very circumstantial – it makes sense, but there has yet to be anything directly tying SM-R382 to Android Wear.
