WhatsApp, the now Facebook-owned instant messaging service, has been available on Windows Phone since September of 2011. After the Windows Phone 8.1 update has started powering phones —more than a million have reportedly installed the Developer Preview — WhatsApp started acting weird. Notifications were reportedly delayed, and a nasty no compatibility message popped up every time the app was launched.
Now, with WhatsApp removed from the Windows Phone Store, we can only hope a Windows Phone 8.1-compatible version will be republished soon, as the OS refresh is not too far out. Searching the Store now for the app brings up no results, and the WhatsApp page on the web mentions that “This app is no longer published”.
