Samsung finally looks ready to release some new tablets featuring OLED displays. The idea of the company returning to the screen tech for its tablets has been kicking around for quite a while now, and vague rumors about a pair of such tablets from months back are now really taking shape: earlier this month we got the Galaxy Tab S name, a couple days ago we checked out a leak that seemed to confirm the presence of OLED panels, and just last night we saw one of these models pick up its FCC certification. That last development sure points to an upcoming launch, but just when might it occur? We’re still a little fuzzy on the exact date, but some new claims sure make it look like we’re four weeks away from the Galaxy Tab S launch.
We’ve got two different sources, both talking about a launch event in New York City, but they don’t agree on the date. Hi-Tech.Mail.Ru claims that Samsung’s event will be on June 11, while The Wall Street Journal reports it will take place on June 12, adding the detail that Madison Square Garden will be the venue. We haven’t received a formal invitation yet, but based on these two separate accounts we wouldn’t be surprised if one or the other is correct.
As for what we’ll get, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.5 are the most likely to make an appearance – these are the two OLED models. While it’s still quite new to us, that 13.3-inch LCD version was mentioned in the same breath as these two in the leak from the other day, so it’s not inconceivable that Samsung might be planning to launch it alongside the smaller tablets.
Following the TabPRO/NotePRO launch at CES andthe Galaxy Tab 4 introduction in early April, this would mark the third family of Samsung Android tablets introduced this year alone.
