Earlier this week, we learned that release plans for the OnePlus One were hitting a snag: despiteinvitations to purchase going out to potential customers, and orders coming in, OnePlus didn’t quite have the smartphone ready to go. The delay was tied to efforts to resolve a software vulnerability uncovered in the CyanogenMod software the handset runs, and at time it sounded like we might be in for a bit of a wait as the code was updated, tested, and ready to install on all these One handsets. Thankfully, better news has already arrived, and it sounds like this hiccup is already behind us.
In a statement released last night, OnePlus explains, “The CyanogenMod team worked very quickly and efficiently and the Open SSL issues have already been fixed. The first OnePlus Ones ship to early users with invites as early as tomorrow.”
Granted, that’s not 100% confirmation that we’ll see orders shipping today, but it does make it clear that this issue has been a lot quicker to resolve than initially estimated, and whether we’re talking today, tomorrow, or even early next week, One orders will be going out to customers very soon.
While we’re glad to be putting this incident behind us, we also worry if all these minor problems with the phone’s release haven’t been slowly chipping away at public OnePlus goodwill.
