We’ve been mentioning it every time talk of the tablets comes up, but in case you haven’t been paying attention, Samsung is expected to introduce its pair of Galaxy Tab S models at a press event tonight. Going back quite a while we’ve hearing scattered rumors of Samsung delivering new tablets that would use the same sort of bright, super-saturated OLED panels that find homes in the company’s high-end smartphones, and last month those rumors started crystallizing around this Tab S name. In the weeks that followed, a ton of info on these slates has leaked, and we’ve already had the opportunity to look at some pretty detailed accounts of their hardware. As we wait for the Galaxy Tab S models to go official, we’ve got one more leak to check out, corroborating what we’ve heard before and offering a few new details.
We’re looking at an 8.4-inch and a 10.5-inch model, both expected to feature 2560 x 1600 OLED screens. They should each get a hefty 3GB of RAM, feature 8MP main cameras with 2.1MP front-facers, and be available in either 16GB or 32GB configurations (with microSD expansion). Both may measure a quite thin 6.6 mm thick – thinner than the recent TabPRO models.
The Tab S 10.5 should get a 7900mAh battery, while the 8.4 would have a smaller 4900mAh power source. Expect both WiFi and LTE-equipped versions of both sizes, as well as light and dark color options – white and black/gray presumably.
Despite earlier rumors claiming that all Tab S variants may be Exynos-powered, this leak claims that we’ll see both Exynos and Snapdragon versions – and while it doesn’t spell it out, that’s almost certainly going to fall on the line between different radio configurations.
The other interesting thing about this leak is what it doesn’t mention: namely, anything about a fingerprint scanner. That had been a component of earlier rumors, and while it still may be in the running, it seems odd for an otherwise comprehensive list of specs like this to leave that out, were it actually slated to arrive on the final models. Whatever the case is, we should have our answers just a little later today.
