Fourth Windows 8.1 update for devs.

We’re still waiting around for Windows Phone OEMs to make with the release of OTA 8.1 updates (and the latest leak suggests we could still be about a month out from seeing the first of them land), but for users who have taken the initiative to manually install Microsoft’s WP8.1 Preview for Developers on their phones (and there sure are a lot of you out there), we’ve already seen a few platform updates arrive. The first popped up around this time last month, with an eye on improving battery life, andthe second arrived just last week, adjusting how settings are applied and making other minor adjustments. It’s already time for Microsoft to deliver its next 8.1 update, and today the company shares news of the arrival of build 12397.
Just like before, if you’re running the 8.1 preview you can install this update by heading into your phone’s settings and having it check for updates. Build 12397 is another relatively minor update, but Microsoft still urges anyone participating in the preview program to make sure they keep up with the latest releases.
As for what’s new, the company tells us that this update improves a couple of those new WP8.1 APIs and adds support for some “newly commercialized devices.” That last part’s a bit intriguing, and we wonder if it’s talking about new phones or new accessories. In any case, take Microsoft’s advice and if you’re involved with this preview, go and get this new update installed.
