MOTO 360 MAKES ALL SMART WATCHES CRAPPY SAYS EXECUTIVE.

This week’s Motorola event brought us the Moto Eand a refreshed Moto G (not to mention the Ferrari model we just saw go official), but nothing new about the Moto 360 smartwatch. Really, that shouldn’t have been that surprising, as we didn’t see any express indication that the wearable might make an appearance – more wishful thinking than anything. Luckily, the week’s not going to pass us by without anything on that forefront, and a new interview with Motorola Senior VP Mark Randall gives us some insight into the company’s thoughts on smartwatches in general, as well as a possible hint at Moto 360 pricing.
To hear Randall tell it, the current crop of smartwatches is a big disappointment. Having looked at the options out there, he remarks, “to be honest we think they are all pretty crappy,” and complains in particular about designs that just “aren’t very sexy.” If nothing else, the 360′s circular face should go a long way to helping distinguish the model from those boxier predecessors.
What about pricing? Well, this one’s a little tricky. In his interview with Trusted Reviews, Randall explains “we don’t feel that because we have launched the Moto G or Moto E we have to price the 360 at a different price point,” which the site interprets as evidence in favor of the Moto 360 getting a more premium price tag. Maybe it’s just the missing context, but we could also read that as being in favor of a very affordable 360 price tag – that is, one not that different from the efforts we see with the G or E. For now, we’ll have to call it up in the air.
We also get a little bit of a tease about “further announcements on other product categories” coming later this year, but could that mean wearables of a different kind, or maybe even something like a renewed interest in tablets? Time will tell, and hopefully it won’t be too long before we have the Moto 360 around to help us keep track of it.
