Rumors of an upcoming Moto X+1 don’t mean thatMotorola is quite done with its 2013 flagship, theMoto X. The smartphone, which started to become offered in wood casings fairly recently, is now seeing one wood option removed from the lineup — Walnut. It is being replaced by a familiar friend.
In a really low-profile move, Motorola has replaced Walnut with Rosewood, one of the wood flavors we saw at the X’s launch event, but never exactly on sale. It seems the color hasn’t changed between Walnut and Rosewood, so we’re thinking that this is simply a naming change. Why Motorola would want to change the name so late in the cycle of the Moto X is unclear to us, but it is what it is.
We do not quite know when the change went live, but here is an image of the current Moto Maker site (with no Walnut):
This news comes as another Moto Maker site revealed a possibly upcoming 64GB flavor of the Moto X. This extra storage will allegedly run buyers $50 more than the 32GB model, or $449. According to a “loyal reader” of Phone Arena, this new storage configuration will be available on Sprint in the U.S., which makes us think we will see it on other major U.S. carriers as well.
