HTC M8 ACE.

We just shared with you the latest imagery purporting to depict the HTC One M8 Prime, and while that’s the highest-profile HTC smartphone we’ve been hearing rumors about, it’s not exactly alone. There’s also been this confounding talk of an HTC M8 “Ace,” which has been quite difficult to get a read on. An early leaked pic revealed little besides a red body, and subsequent rumors painted the handset as a plastic, more affordable version of the M8. But would this be a new Butterfly – like that B2 we’ve heard of – or something else entirely? Today we turn to the latest Ace rumors out of China, getting to see a possible render of the smartphone, and hear about how it may fit into HTC’s lineup.
Internally, the Ace sounds largely similar to the One M8, and will likely feature the same SoC and display. Really, though, the way this report is written (at least as it comes across translated), it doesn’t sound like the author has a very authoritative grasp on the phone, and we might otherwise dismiss it as mere speculation… if it weren’t for that image.
Engadget claims that it’s been able to verify this render as accurately depicting the Ace, presumably having run it by a source familiar with HTC’s plans. That ID alone is enough to get us paying attention.
Not only do we see this image dropping the phone’s IR transceiver, but it also moves the flash up to where the secondary Duo Camera would go, ditching that depth sensor in the process.
So will China get the Butterfly B2 AND this M8 Ace (which may launch as the One Style or Fashion Edition, but we’re a little unsure of that translation, too)? That certainly seems to be what we’re hearing, leaving us wondering if pricing differences may ultimately serve to set the two phones apart.
